The Wandering Star Tarot (Deck Review)

The Wandering Star Tarot (Deck Review)

This deck is friendly and approachable. It has upbeat colors and keywords that are worked into the design. The card stock has a matte finish and shuffles well. It feels sturdy but not rigid. The backs are reversible. Strength is 8; Justice is 11. There is minimal nudity — only in the World card and tasteful rather than gratuitous. There is also diversity. The deck comes in a sturdy two-part box with a small booklet.

There are two extra cards: The Mother Star, which gives the answer YES and The Creator, which gives the answer NO. I think this is a brilliant idea, especially since so many people have yes/no questions and don’t know how to interpret the cards for these. I’m envisioning their use this way: you ask your yes/no question and then simply lay out cards until one of them pops up and it’s your answer. You could also simply do a reading and if one of them shows up in the reading it lets you know whether you’re on the right track or not.

some cards from the Minor Arcana of The Wandering Star Tarot

The Minor Arcana is fully illustrated, although there is occasionally an animal rather than a human. I hoped the booklet would explain why but it was not addressed at all. I guess it’s just the trend in decks in recent years.

Who might like this deck? Beginners, in particular may appreciate the keywords. If you enjoy the artwork, you’ll enjoy the deck; it’s not one of those decks that’s hiding ugly cards inside. The entire deck is lovely.

Who might not like this deck? People who are strongly opposed to keywords on cards. People who just can’t deal with some of the cards randomly being animals.

Overall, I really love this deck and it’s easily one of my favorites in the last few years.
